Ochre

Django and Wagtail starter for paid newsletters, courses and memberships

About this starter

Ochre is built for content businesses. Wagtail handles the editorial side with page types for articles, courses with lessons and a public archive, while Django takes care of members. It includes allauth sign-in, Stripe subscriptions with free, monthly and annual tiers, paywalled sections, email newsletters sent through Postmark, and a member dashboard with reading history.

It is opinionated that editors should never need to touch code: tiers, paywall rules and newsletter sends are all managed from the Wagtail admin. The limitation: it is not a general SaaS starter. If your product is software rather than content, most of the page models and paywall logic will get in your way.

Highlights

  • 01Paywall rules managed by editors in Wagtail
  • 02Course pages with lessons and progress
  • 03Newsletter sends via Postmark from the admin
