Plumbline

Checks every doc against your style guide and cites the rule behind each fix

About this tool

Plumbline reads your style guide, glossary and a few approved documents, then turns them into checks that run inside Google Docs, Confluence and Markdown repos. When it flags a sentence, it quotes the rule it is applying, so writers learn the house style instead of clicking accept on mystery suggestions. Docs leads can mark rules as hard errors or soft hints and see which ones get ignored most.

It suits technical writing and support-content teams of five or more who already have a style guide nobody reads. It is not a drafting tool: Plumbline will not write a paragraph for you, and it needs a reasonably specific guide to be useful. Vague rules like "be friendly" produce vague flags.

Highlights

  • 01Every flag cites the exact style-guide rule it applies
  • 02Rules can be hard errors or soft hints per team
