Quarry Slab

Quarry Slab is a slab serif with low contrast and squared serifs that hold up on cheap screens and newsprint alike. The Regular weight is free for any use, including commercial projects. The full family adds Light to Heavy weights with italics, ten styles in total, plus a condensed width for tight headlines.

It works well for editorial sites, outdoor and craft brands, and product marketing that needs some grit. The free weight is a good way to test it in a real layout before paying. The family license is $60 for 2 desktop seats and web use. The caveat: the italic is closer to an oblique than a true cursive, which some editors will dislike.
