Firebrick

Rails 8 starter with Hotwire, Solid Queue and the Pay gem, ready for teams

About this starter

Firebrick is a Rails 8 kit that sticks to the defaults and fills in the business parts. It uses the built-in authentication generator extended with OAuth and magic links, accounts with members and roles, the Pay gem for Stripe and Paddle subscriptions, Solid Queue for jobs, Solid Cache, Action Mailer templates for every lifecycle email, and an admin built with Avo. Kamal config deploys it to any VPS.

It is opinionated about the one-person framework idea: no separate front end, Turbo and Stimulus for interactivity, SQLite or Postgres depending on scale. Tests use Minitest with fixtures for every plan. The limitation: there is no API layer. If you need a mobile app or public API, you will add serializers and token auth yourself.

Highlights

  • 01Kamal deploy to any VPS in one command
  • 02Lifecycle emails for trials, dunning and cancel
  • 03Avo admin with impersonation
