Ferrule

Next.js SaaS with Payload CMS for the blog, docs and changelog

About this starter

Ferrule is for products where content does part of the selling. Payload CMS runs inside the same Next.js app and powers the marketing pages, a blog, a docs section with search and a public changelog. The app side has Auth.js sign-in, teams with invites, Stripe subscriptions, and a settings area. Emails are React Email templates editable as Payload globals.

It is opinionated that marketing should not need a developer: non-technical cofounders can publish posts and edit pricing copy in the Payload admin. The limitation is build weight. Payload adds noticeably to cold starts and build time, and upgrading Payload and Next.js together has needed manual fixes twice this year according to the changelog.

Highlights

  • 01Blog, docs and changelog editable in Payload
  • 02Pricing copy changes without a deploy
  • 03Docs search included, no external service
