Oldcode Atlas

Maps a legacy codebase and explains each module before you change it

About this tool

Point Oldcode Atlas at a large repository and it builds a navigable map: modules, their dependencies, entry points, database tables they touch and the people who changed them most. Click any module and you get a plain-language summary of what it does, with links to the exact lines that support each statement.

Teams inheriting an acquisition, consultancies starting a modernization project and new hires on a ten-year-old monolith use it to shorten the weeks of reading before the first safe change. It supports Java, C#, COBOL, PHP and Python. Summaries for dynamically dispatched or reflection-heavy code are less reliable and are labeled as such.

Highlights

  • 01Dependency map with the database tables per module
  • 02Summaries link to the lines that support them
