Framepatch

Open-source video inpainting for removing objects, logos and boom mics from shots

About this tool

Framepatch is a command-line tool and Python library for removing unwanted objects from video. You mark the object on one frame, it tracks the mask through the shot and fills the region using surrounding frames, so the patch stays stable instead of flickering.

Independent filmmakers, VFX students and post houses that want a scriptable step in their pipeline use it for boom mics, stray crew, logos and signage. It ships with a simple web preview for checking masks. It is not fast: a ten-second 4K shot can take several minutes on a high-end GPU, and large moving objects against a moving background still leave visible artifacts.

Highlights

  • 01Mark once and the mask is tracked through the shot
  • 02Fills from neighboring frames to avoid flicker
  • 03Scriptable for batch post-production pipelines
