Termwright

Open-source terminal helper that explains commands before you run them

About this tool

Termwright adds two shortcuts to your shell: describe what you want and get a command, or paste a command and get a line-by-line explanation of every flag. Anything that deletes files, rewrites history or touches production credentials is highlighted and requires confirmation.

Developers who know enough shell to be dangerous, and operations engineers working with unfamiliar CLIs, use it to stop copying commands from forum answers blindly. It works with a local model or any API key you supply, and it never sends your shell history. Suggestions for niche tools without good help text are hit and miss, and it supports bash, zsh and fish but not PowerShell yet.

Highlights

  • 01Explains every flag of a pasted command
  • 02Highlights destructive commands before they run
  • 03Works with a local model, never sends history
